Kitchen remodeling in Port Barrington, IL
Kitchen remodeling in Port Barrington often addresses the distinct character of its homes, from the compact original layouts along Nielsen's Channels to the more expansive designs in newer subdivisions like River Walk. Many projects focus on expanding smaller, isolated kitchens in the older section, frequently involving the removal of interior walls to connect them with living or dining spaces. In Deer Grove and Port Barrington Shores, we typically update kitchens from the early 2000s, replacing original finishes and optimizing layouts for contemporary entertaining. A common undertaking is reconfiguring the kitchen footprint to accommodate larger islands and more efficient workflow, transforming the heart of these homes. Whether it's a historic renovation or a modern update, each Port Barrington kitchen remodel is tailored to the home's specific vintage and the homeowner's lifestyle.
What Port Barrington homeowners ask for
Port Barrington homeowners frequently request kitchen remodels that open up floor plans, especially in older Fox River Valley Gardens homes where kitchens were traditionally more secluded. They often ask for larger islands to serve as central gathering points and informal dining, integrating seamlessly into newly expanded living areas. Upgraded appliance packages and custom cabinetry designed for specific storage needs are also highly sought after across all home eras.
About Port Barrington
Port Barrington homes span two eras: compact original-section homes near the water and newer subdivisions. This means remodeling can involve opening up older homes or updating kitchens and baths in the newer areas.
Port Barrington began in 1927 as Fox River Valley Gardens, a Fox River village whose original section still holds roughly 200 homes on quarter-acre lots along the man-made Nielsen's Channels. Newer neighborhoods — River Walk, Port Barrington Shores, and the early-2000s Deer Grove and Deer Grove North — came as the village grew. Families are served by Wauconda District 118 schools, with Metra's UP-NW line a short drive away at Fox River Grove and Cary.
The original 1927 Fox River Valley Gardens homes along Nielsen's Channels often feature smaller, more isolated kitchens, frequently requiring wall removal to open up the floor plan. In these older homes, gas and electrical service, as well as water supply lines from private wells, may need significant updates to support modern kitchen layouts and appliances. Venting solutions in the original quarter-acre homes often require careful planning due to their established footprints and potential for limited space. Kitchens in the early-2000s Deer Grove and Deer Grove North subdivisions typically have more contemporary layouts but may still benefit from reconfiguring to accommodate larger islands. For all homes, plumbing-heavy projects must account for private wells and the Northern Moraine Wastewater Reclamation District's sanitary sewer system from the outset.
Port Barrington kitchen remodels require specific permits for electrical, plumbing, and any structural changes like wall removal, triggering inspections by the village Building and Zoning Officer at various project stages. GS Construction & Remodeling manages all permit applications and coordinates inspection scheduling on behalf of Port Barrington homeowners.

Our project turned out better than we expected and as things were going along, we added more projects. Patryk, Greg and their team did a fantastic job. They were always so nice to work with, even suggesting things which was helpful. They never left a project until they thought it was perfect. We did a full kitchen remodel, even closing off a window to move a fridge and pantry to the other side to allow more cabinets and much needed counter space. They widen the entrance and the kitchen seems so much bigger. We think it’s Beautiful! They did laminated floors throughout the first floor, painted all walls and new baseboards. They created a wine bar which was just a cubby hole. They put in a pantry like cubby hole in our laundry room and added cabinets and above wall unit. One of the projects we had them add is new wooden stairs to the 2nd floor, white spindles and railing that curves instead of a wall and laminate floors on the 2nd floor. Other odd and ends that they never hesitated to do. We appreciate all they have done in our home, To us, it’s amazing how nice it is and how it should have been all the years we have lived here. Its exciting to show it off, it feels like a new house. These guys are amazing and would definately recommend them to anyone. Very reliable and easy to get in contact with when needed.
