Whole-home work lives or dies on the order things happen in. We run it as one job with one schedule and one number to call, with an owner here on site and a portal showing you the schedule, any change orders and your balance — so the trades aren't tripping over each other and you aren't running your own remodel.
- Free in-home estimate from an owner, not a salesperson
- One itemized scope and one schedule across every room
- Permits and inspections handled with Port Barrington across every trade
- Workmanship warranty on the whole project — our commitment never expires
"One scope, one schedule, one point of contact."

Whole-home remodeling in Port Barrington, IL
Whole-home remodeling in Port Barrington often transforms the original Fox River Valley Gardens cottages, opening up their compact footprints and updating their 1920s and 30s interiors for modern living. This frequently involves removing load-bearing walls to create expansive great rooms, integrating existing spaces like small dining rooms or sun porches into a larger, more functional flow. For homes in newer subdivisions like Deer Grove North, a whole-home project typically focuses on a comprehensive aesthetic refresh, updating multiple bathrooms and the kitchen simultaneously while addressing worn flooring and outdated finishes throughout. Such projects frequently involve reconfiguring bedroom layouts to create larger primary suites or adding dedicated home office spaces. Given the varying ages, a whole-home remodel here addresses everything from foundational structural changes to contemporary design elements, unifying the entire residence.
What Port Barrington homeowners ask for
Port Barrington homeowners undertaking a whole-home remodel often request complete kitchen and primary bath overhauls in conjunction with reconfiguring interior walls to achieve an open-concept living space. They also frequently ask for integrated smart home technology throughout the entire residence, from lighting to climate control. Another common request is for a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living areas, particularly for homes near the channels or river, often incorporating new patio doors or expanded decks.
About Port Barrington
Port Barrington homes span two eras: compact original-section homes near the water and newer subdivisions. This means remodeling can involve opening up older homes or updating kitchens and baths in the newer areas.
Port Barrington began in 1927 as Fox River Valley Gardens, a Fox River village whose original section still holds roughly 200 homes on quarter-acre lots along the man-made Nielsen's Channels. Newer neighborhoods — River Walk, Port Barrington Shores, and the early-2000s Deer Grove and Deer Grove North — came as the village grew. Families are served by Wauconda District 118 schools, with Metra's UP-NW line a short drive away at Fox River Grove and Cary.
Whole-home remodeling in the original Fox River Valley Gardens section often involves navigating the existing structures on quarter-acre lots, considering how to expand within these confines. For homes in newer neighborhoods like River Walk and Port Barrington Shores, whole-home projects frequently address updating the original layouts to suit contemporary family needs. Given that homes draw water from private wells, plumbing-heavy projects require careful planning around well permits and testing from the Lake and McHenry County health departments. Additionally, since sanitary sewer runs through the Northern Moraine Wastewater Reclamation District, extensive plumbing work is sequenced to integrate with this existing infrastructure. Near the river, whole-home additions and lower-level remodels are shaped by floodplain review, necessitating specific design and construction approaches.
Whole-home remodeling in Port Barrington necessitates comprehensive structural permits for any wall removals or reconfigurations, requiring detailed engineering plans for village review. GS Construction & Remodeling expertly manages all necessary applications and coordinates every phase of inspections with the village Building and Zoning Officer.

Our project turned out better than we expected and as things were going along, we added more projects. Patryk, Greg and their team did a fantastic job. They were always so nice to work with, even suggesting things which was helpful. They never left a project until they thought it was perfect. We did a full kitchen remodel, even closing off a window to move a fridge and pantry to the other side to allow more cabinets and much needed counter space. They widen the entrance and the kitchen seems so much bigger. We think it’s Beautiful! They did laminated floors throughout the first floor, painted all walls and new baseboards. They created a wine bar which was just a cubby hole. They put in a pantry like cubby hole in our laundry room and added cabinets and above wall unit. One of the projects we had them add is new wooden stairs to the 2nd floor, white spindles and railing that curves instead of a wall and laminate floors on the 2nd floor. Other odd and ends that they never hesitated to do. We appreciate all they have done in our home, To us, it’s amazing how nice it is and how it should have been all the years we have lived here. Its exciting to show it off, it feels like a new house. These guys are amazing and would definately recommend them to anyone. Very reliable and easy to get in contact with when needed.
