Remodeling in Melrose Park, IL

GS Construction provides expert remodeling services to homeowners in Melrose Park and throughout Proviso Township. We're a family-owned and operated contractor with deep roots in the Chicago suburbs, offering top-quality kitchen, bathroom, and whole-home renovations. Let us bring your Melrose Park home dreams to life.

Melrose Park is one of the west suburbs' oldest villages — incorporated in 1882 and renamed Melrose Park in 1893 — but much of its housing dates to the boom after World War II, when manufacturers like International Harvester and Zenith drew thousands of new residents and subdivisions like Winston Park filled former farm fields with Ashley, Beverly, and Canterbury model homes between 1952 and 1964. GS Construction plans remodels around that midcentury stock: kitchen and bathroom renovations that open up compact postwar layouts, basement build-outs, and additions that add the second bath or primary suite these floor plans never included. The village runs its own water system on Lake Michigan water purchased from Chicago and publishes a lead service line inventory, so we check service-line status early whenever a project moves plumbing. Three elementary districts (89, 88, and 83) serve different parts of town, teens head to Proviso East or West, and the Melrose Park Metra station reaches Ogilvie in under half an hour on the UP-W line.

Melrose Park permits & building codes for remodeling projects

The Village of Melrose Park requires a building permit before any construction or remodeling project begins, and every contractor on the job — general and subs alike — must hold a current Melrose Park contractor registration. The Building Department at 1000 N. 25th Avenue reviews applications and conducts rough and final inspections as the work progresses. GS Construction manages the full permit process — application, contractor registration, and inspection scheduling — for every Melrose Park project.

I cannot say enough good things about GS Constructions / Greg and Patryk Szady. From the start, their proposal and cost estimate was broken down, item by item, which most contractors don't do. It allowed us to alter our project to fit our budget. Patryk also took the time to explain costs to us and help us get what we wanted for the price we could afford. Once we hired GS, they kept to their timeline, and they focused on our project. Each day we knew when to expect workers (who came on time!) and at the end of each day, we could see real progress. The crews that came to do the work were courteous, respectful of our space, and they cleaned up after themselves. Patryk and Greg didn't just show up once or twice; they were there throughout the project, and were alway helpful in answering questions, addressing concerns, and making it feel like my project was their main focus. Most importantly, the finished product was beyond our expectations. Patryk and Greg really pay attention to detail and are willing to go the extra mile to make things perfect. From exact tile or light placement, to thinking about how cabinets will sit near a doorway, to vent color, they thought of and addressed issues I hadn't even considered, and they made it look perfect, even when that meant more work for them. When I picked a paint color I ended up not loving, they offered to repaint even though it was my mistake. When I picked a wall mounted faucet known for being difficult, they spent hours trouble shooting water pressure and placement in order to get it just right. When the project was all done, Patryk and Greg followed up a few weeks later to make sure we were happy, and come back and address small punch list items that we realized only after living in the space again. It is this kind of attention to satisfaction and attention to detail that is rare to find in this industry, and it makes Patryk and Greg an absolute pleasure to work with. I have recommended them to others we have been equally happy. TL;DR: GS Construction was on time and on budget, and their prices are competitive and fair. Their work was absolutely beautiful, and we couldn't be more pleased. After this experience, I honestly would not use anyone else. I will be a returning customer for life.
