River Forest Kitchen Remodeling
GS CONSTRUCTION & REMODELING
GS Construction & Remodeling has remodeled kitchens for River Forest homeowners since 2015. Gregory and Patryk are a father-son team with more than 40 years between them, and one of them is on your job personally.
A River Forest kitchen usually takes 8–12 weeks, and Greg or Patryk is here for those weeks — not a project manager passing your questions along. We pull the River Forest permits, bring in the trades we've worked with for years in the right order, and price every line of it before demo day.
- Free in-home estimate from an owner, not a salesperson
- Itemized scope — labor, materials, demolition and disposal, line by line

Kitchen remodeling in River Forest, IL
Kitchen remodeling in River Forest often means working with homes from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many featuring distinct, compartmentalized floor plans. We regularly update these kitchens, opening up traditional layouts to create more expansive, connected living spaces while honoring the architectural integrity of the era. This frequently involves removing non-load-bearing walls between the kitchen and dining areas or living rooms, a common request for improved flow and natural light. Our projects here balance modern functionality with the enduring charm of these historic properties, ensuring new kitchens feel both contemporary and historically appropriate. We address everything from outdated electrical systems to inefficient layouts, transforming them into bright, highly functional culinary hubs.
What River Forest homeowners ask for
River Forest homeowners frequently request the integration of large islands with seating, creating central gathering points in their newly opened kitchen spaces. Requests for high-end, professional-grade appliances that complement modern cooking styles are also common, often alongside custom cabinetry designed to maximize storage and aesthetics. Many clients also seek to introduce more natural light through larger windows or strategically placed recessed lighting, enhancing the brightness and spaciousness of their updated kitchens.
About River Forest
River Forest is an architecture town, with a deep stock of Victorian, Prairie, and brick Colonial homes from the village's 19th- and early-20th-century growth. Remodeling here is a balancing act — reworking century-old floor plans while keeping the woodwork, masonry, and street-facing character that give these houses their value.
Frank Lloyd Wright's first independent commission, the Winslow House, stands on Auvergne Place, Prairie School architect William Drummond lived and built here, and the streets near Thatcher Woods carry a deep stock of Victorian, Prairie, and brick Colonial homes from the village's 19th- and early-20th-century growth.
The deep stock of Victorian, Prairie, and brick Colonial homes from the village's 19th- and early-20th-century growth often means original kitchen footprints were smaller, with walls separating them from dining areas. Reworking these century-old floor plans for modern kitchens frequently involves addressing outdated electrical and gas service, which may require significant upgrades to support contemporary appliances and layouts. Venting solutions often need to be carefully integrated into the existing masonry and structural elements of these historic homes. Furthermore, the Village's Lake Michigan water system and "Get the Lead Out" program highlight potential water supply line replacements that can be efficiently folded into a kitchen remodel, avoiding separate disruptions. These details are central to planning whole-home renovations or room-by-room updates in River Forest.
Kitchen remodeling in River Forest typically triggers electrical, plumbing, and mechanical inspections, particularly for gas line work or changes to ventilation. GS Construction & Remodeling manages all permit applications, including coordinating required inspections for structural modifications, utility alterations, and new installations.

I cannot say enough good things about GS Constructions / Greg and Patryk Szady. From the start, their proposal and cost estimate was broken down, item by item, which most contractors don't do. It allowed us to alter our project to fit our budget. Patryk also took the time to explain costs to us and help us get what we wanted for the price we could afford. Once we hired GS, they kept to their timeline, and they focused on our project. Each day we knew when to expect workers (who came on time!) and at the end of each day, we could see real progress. The crews that came to do the work were courteous, respectful of our space, and they cleaned up after themselves. Patryk and Greg didn't just show up once or twice; they were there throughout the project, and were alway helpful in answering questions, addressing concerns, and making it feel like my project was their main focus. Most importantly, the finished product was beyond our expectations. Patryk and Greg really pay attention to detail and are willing to go the extra mile to make things perfect. From exact tile or light placement, to thinking about how cabinets will sit near a doorway, to vent color, they thought of and addressed issues I hadn't even considered, and they made it look perfect, even when that meant more work for them. When I picked a paint color I ended up not loving, they offered to repaint even though it was my mistake. When I picked a wall mounted faucet known for being difficult, they spent hours trouble shooting water pressure and placement in order to get it just right. When the project was all done, Patryk and Greg followed up a few weeks later to make sure we were happy, and come back and address small punch list items that we realized only after living in the space again. It is this kind of attention to satisfaction and attention to detail that is rare to find in this industry, and it makes Patryk and Greg an absolute pleasure to work with. I have recommended them to others we have been equally happy. TL;DR: GS Construction was on time and on budget, and their prices are competitive and fair. Their work was absolutely beautiful, and we couldn't be more pleased. After this experience, I honestly would not use anyone else. I will be a returning customer for life.
