Evanston runs permitting through its Accela Citizen Access portal (permits.cityofevanston.org), where building permit applications, contractor registration, and inspection records are all handled online through the City's Permit Desk. If a property is an Evanston landmark or sits in one of the four local historic districts, exterior changes require a separate Certificate of Appropriateness from the Preservation Commission — interior remodels generally do not trigger it.
