Modern Palatine Primary Bathroom: A Spa-Like Retreat for Homeowners
· 7 photos
This primary bathroom in Palatine, IL, underwent a complete transformation, emerging as a modern, spa-like sanctuary.
Our journey with these Palatine homeowners began, as it often does, with a conversation. They envisioned a primary bathroom that felt less like a functional space and more like a personal retreat, a place to unwind and recharge. Their existing bathroom, while adequate, lacked the modern amenities, spacious feel, and luxurious touches they desired. The plan we developed together focused on maximizing the existing footprint, introducing high-quality materials, and creating distinct zones for relaxation and daily routines.
Partnering with J. Peterson Design for a Cohesive Vision
For this project, we had the pleasure of collaborating with J. Peterson Design, an interior design firm specializing in kitchen and bath renovations across Illinois, Georgia, and Michigan. Jennifer Peterson and her team bring a wealth of expertise to creating extraordinary, functional, and timeless spaces. On this job, J. Peterson Design provided a comprehensive design presentation, including construction documents, material selections, and jobsite inspections, which became the blueprint for our work. They focused on bringing the homeowners' vision to life through detailed plans and carefully curated finishes, ensuring every element contributed to the overall aesthetic. We then took these detailed drawings and selections, handling the consultation, estimate, permits, scheduling, and the entire construction process, coordinating closely with J. Peterson Design throughout the build to ensure their design was implemented precisely as intended.
Our process began with a free in-home estimate. Either Greg or Patryk, one of our owners, visited the home in Palatine. We walked through the existing bathroom, listening carefully to the homeowners' needs and desires. We discussed their budget, offering honest feedback on what could be achieved and providing a realistic project range. This initial conversation allowed us to understand their vision deeply and set the stage for a successful collaboration.
Next, we provided an itemized scope and contract. This detailed proposal outlined every aspect of the project, from labor and materials to demolition and disposal, line by line. There were no hidden fees or mystery numbers; everything was transparent. Payment terms and our warranty coverage were clearly spelled out in the written contract, ensuring clarity and peace of mind for the homeowners.
The Thoughtful Layout and Luxurious Fixtures
The most significant change in the room’s layout involved creating a more open and functional flow. The previous setup felt cramped, but by reconfiguring the space, we were able to incorporate a spacious layout that truly felt expansive. The addition of two dark wood vanities immediately anchored the room, providing ample storage and a rich, grounded aesthetic. These vanities were topped with bright white quartz countertops, which introduced a crisp, clean contrast and a highly durable surface. Two Kohler sinks were integrated into these countertops, paired with polished chrome Grohe faucets. These specific selections, guided by J. Peterson Design, ensured both elegance and reliable performance.
Materials & finishes:
- Dark wood vanity cabinets
- Bright white quartz countertops
- Kohler sinks
- Polished chrome Grohe faucets
- Frameless glass shower enclosure
- Freestanding soaking tub
- Herringbone tile accent wall
- Recessed lighting
The shower was another key element in achieving the spa-like feel. We installed a sleek frameless glass-enclosed shower, which not only looks modern but also contributes to the open, airy feel of the room. The clear glass allows light to flow freely, making the entire space feel larger. Adjacent to the shower, a luxurious freestanding soaking tub became the focal point for relaxation. This tub is set against a striking herringbone tile accent wall, a design detail that adds texture and visual interest, elevating the space from functional to truly indulgent. Our skilled tile setters meticulously installed this feature, ensuring every line was perfect.
Beyond the primary vanity area, the design included a dedicated makeup vanity, a thoughtful touch that provides a specific zone for daily grooming. This vanity also features dark wood cabinetry, maintaining consistency with the main vanities, and a bright white quartz countertop for a unified look. Two tall dark wood cabinet towers were incorporated, offering additional vertical storage without cluttering the floor space. These towers, along with two large mirrors above the main vanities, contribute to the room’s sense of grandeur and functionality. Recessed lighting throughout the bathroom provides even, ambient illumination, further enhancing the modern aesthetic and ensuring no harsh shadows.
We managed all necessary permits, handling the building, plumbing, and electrical permits with the Village of Palatine. Before demolition day, the homeowners received a written schedule, outlining every step of the construction process. The build itself was owner-supervised, meaning either Greg or Patryk was on-site daily, overseeing our long-standing trade partners. These partners, from plumbers to electricians, worked in sequence, ensuring a smooth and efficient progression. The homeowners also had access to a private client portal, where they could view the schedule, track change orders, and see up-to-date balances, always with a direct line to us, the owners.
Upon completion, we conducted a thorough walkthrough with the homeowners. Together, we addressed every item on the punch list, ensuring everything met their expectations and our high standards. We handed over all manufacturer paperwork for the fixtures and finishes, and our written workmanship warranty began, with the assurance that we are always just a phone call away should anything need attention. This modern bathroom remodel in Palatine showcases our commitment to delivering beautiful and functional spaces, built with high-quality materials and exquisite craftsmanship.
